ABOUT SCOUTS BSA
Scouts BSA is a year-round program for youth ages 11 through 17 that provides fun, adventure, learning, challenge, and responsibility to help them become the best person they can be. In Scouting, youth go places, test themselves, and have one-of-a-kind adventures that can’t be found anywhere else. Scouts BSA is designed to be experienced outdoors. Hiking, camping, mountain biking, mountain climbing, kayaking, whitewater rafting—all of these and more are among the outdoor adventures in store.
SCOUT LED: Scout troops are youth led and youth run. Youth take responsibility for the activities of the troop. Adults train youth members to assume leadership roles, and the youth are allowed to plan the program and carry it out. By planning and organizing activities, they develop teamwork and learn to lead as well as follow.
RANK ADVANCEMENT: Scouting provides a series of surmountable obstacles and the steps to overcome them through the rank advancement method. Scouts plan their advancement and progress at their own pace as they meet each challenge. Rank advancement is one method used by Scout leaders to help Scouts fulfill the aims of Scouting: character development, citizenship training, and mental and physical fitness.
MERIT BADGES: Earning merit badges gives Scouts the opportunity to learn important life skills and to gain real-world knowledge in more than 130 different areas — from American Business to Woodwork. The merit badge program plays a major role in Scouting advancement.
MEETINGS AND EVENTS
TROOP MEETINGS: Weekly troop meetings are held at St. Catherine of Siena. We meet on Sundays from 1-2:30 pm at St. Catherine in the Parish Center’s Siena Hall, 4800 Convict Hill Road, Austin, TX 78749.
CAMPOUTS: Troop campouts occur every month except June, July, and August. During these summer months, Scouts have the opportunity to attend one or more week-long summer camps. Merit badge camps are available for all Scouts, while Scouts 14 and older have the opportunity to challenge themselves at high adventure camps.
CEREMONIES: Court of Honor ceremonies, in which we recognize Scout achievement, are held 3-4 times per year.
REGISTRATION & FEES
Annual dues are $180 per Scout. These fees cover monthly campouts, activities, and awards. In addition, new Scouts can expect one-time uniform costs of approximatly $100. Troop 19 will also ask Scouts to participate in annual fundraisers.
